HYDERABAD: Beneficiaries can opt for their own design for the construction of housing units under the Indiramma housing scheme, as the Congress govt has not issued any mandatory design to be followed. Additionally, beneficiaries who have the financial means can exceed the maximum 400 sq ft built space finalised by the govt under the 5 lakh financial assistance Indiramma housing scheme. However, it is mandatory that the 400 sq ft construction must include a toilet and kitchen.
Housing corporation officials stated that if a beneficiary wishes to construct more built-up space, such as an additional hall or bedroom with their own money, they would be allowed to do so once the 5 lakh financial assistance worth of construction is completed.
In the first phase, state govt aims to cover nearly 5 lakh families, and only those who own a piece of land will be included in the inaugural phase. Construction of houses will commence once the ongoing survey of land, on which the construction is proposed, is completed.
Officials are conducting field-level surveys by following the addresses and other land and family details provided by 80 lakh applicants for Indiramma housing. Once the survey is completed, the details of eligible beneficiaries are uploaded on the Indiramma housing app.
Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy mentioned that the proposal is to start grounding works for at least some of the Indiramma houses before or soon after the Sankranti festival.
Of the 80 lakh applications received for Indiramma housing units, over 35 lakh have been scrutinised, and the survey is completed. Their details have been uploaded on the Indiramma app. The scrutiny of the remaining applications and survey will be completed at the earliest. The minister reiterated that the Congress govt will cover every eligible poor individual under the Indiramma housing scheme.
Even if the central govt, for some reason, rejects funding to any of the Indiramma housing applicants whose name is approved by the state govt, the Congress govt will bear the cost and extend the scheme to such beneficiaries, he said.
The state govt is also examining the possibility of acting as a facilitator for material procurement for the beneficiary. The proposal is to give full freedom to the beneficiary to procure construction material if they wish to do so directly from the market. A final decision is yet to be made regarding the govt acting as a facilitator for material procurement for those who need it.
