INDORE: A total of 2,444 applications were received by the district administration from applicants seeking leases on populated land under occupancy rights on Sunday.

The district administration organised camps at tehsil offices in Indore for granting leases, in which around 266 applications were received in Kanadia, 334 in Rau, 687 in Malharganj, 595 in Juni Indore, and 562 in Bhicholi Hapsi.

In 2014, the Indore district expanded the municipal corporation limits by including 29 villages.

The residents of these villages who occupy residential land or their heirs/transferees without a lease can apply for a lease under land holding rights.

“The municipal corporation of Indore expanded its jurisdiction by incorporating 29 villages. Besides, there are other sections of the city that were populated villages before being integrated into the municipal limits. Residents of these villages can apply for leases under occupancy rights if they do not currently possess one through these camps,” said collector Asheesh Singh.

These leases will be granted for 30 years, facilitating access to loans and the ability to sell or transfer the property.

Presently, landowners residing in these 29 villages within the municipal limits encounter impediments in selling their houses or procuring loans for construction due to the absence of registration, lease, or other documents. Such individuals can apply for leases under occupancy rights based on the revenue department’s circular dated September 24, 2020.

Chief minister Mohan Yadav, during a visit to Indore in September this year had given directives in this regard.

Singh said the application process for leases is in progress, for which applicants need to furnish documents such as electricity bills, water supply bills, any correspondence /documents related to the land from a govt office or enterprise, address mentioned in the 2011 census, property tax receipts issued by local authorities, and name/address listed in the voter list for verification.
