INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), following the Pimpri-Chinchwad revenue generation model, has proposed a fresh GIS survey of structures to help identify avenues to increase property tax collection.

“We recently visited Pimpri-Chinchwad city, which has a population of around 25 lakh and generates property tax of around Rs 900 crore. In contrast, there is a population of around 35 lakh within IMC’s city limits, and the collection under this head is around Rs 500 crore,” Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) CEO Divyank Singh said. He added that they have proposed a GIS survey of property to identify those who are not paying the tax to IMC.

“The last GIS survey was carried out in 2019, and in the last five years, many structures have come up in the city,” he explained. He added that the survey will help identify new constructions, their area, and floors to determine the actual property tax to recover from the owners or occupants. He mentioned that teams will also be deployed for physical verification of the survey through door-to-door visits.

According to IMC commissioner Shivam Verma, it is the responsibility of citizens to pay the taxes for the services they are using, as it helps the civic body maintain quality and strengthen amenities in line with the pace of development.

Notably, IMC is already developing its e-own portal with the aim of streamlining revenue collection and providing better facilities to citizens.

The civic body has been struggling to collect revenue through taxes and other sources of income due to technical issues with the e-Nagar Palika Portal. The corporation’s e-portal will be modern and designed to provide maximum convenience to citizens in the present era.

Using modern technologies, the civic body has also started digitising all documents for easy use and preservation.
