INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Monday demolished illegal portions of 63 houses that were obstructing road widening work in Nandbagh area of Tigariya Badshah
Senior IMC officials said notices informing residents about the impending demolition of unauthorized extensions to their property were issued a week ago. As several residents failed to comply with the notice, the civic body decided to launch the demolition drive on Monday.
The road in Tigariya Badshah is slated to be widened to 30 metre. But, the illegal extensions of 63 houses were hindering the process. These extensions varied in size, ranging from one to eight feet beyond the permissible limits.
To ensure a smooth operation, IMC made announcements for three days prior to the demolition drive. Officials were also deployed to interact with the residents and address their concerns. As a result, most residents vacated the illegal portions of their houses, making the demolition process relatively hassle-free.
“The demolition drive was executed by a team of over 200 IMC employees, along with earth movers and other heavy machinery,” IMC deputy commissioner Lata Agrawal said, adding that officials from the police and administration were also present to oversee the operation.
As per the plan, IMC started the demolition drive early morning, and by evening, a widened area was visible to increase the width of the road as per the master plan.
