KANPUR: Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has intensified its efforts to execute the New Kanpur City project this year. It is presently preparing the site plan based on acquired land and its topography to ascertain precise land locations and requisite infrastructure development. The infrastructure work encompasses roads, sewerage systems and drinking water pipelines.

New Kanpur City project was conceptualised in 1996 but remained unexecuted due to unavoidable circumstances.

The first phase encompasses 53.31 hectares spanning Sambalpur, Gangapur, Chakbada, Singhpur Kachar, Hindupur and Bairi Akbarpur villages. KDA has acquired approximately 45 hectares while requiring 89.69 hectares for the initial phase of this ambitious project.

According to KDA sources, village farmers have consented to provide an additional 5 hectares, bringing the total to 50 hectares shortly. The site plan and civic infrastructure will be developed accordingly. KDA has allocated Rs 183.5 crore for infrastructural development.

The district administration has forwarded proposals for acquiring the remaining 39.69 hectares. Land acquisition will commence upon receiving the state government approval which is anticipated next month.

Meanwhile, KDA has initiated verification of acquired lands across the projects. Despite having an Amin team to prevent encroachment, inadequate maintenance has resulted in illegal occupancy of KDA lands.

Recently, KDA recovered approximately 70 bigha of illegally occupied land at Sanigawan village and started evacuation proceedings. The cross-verification revealed KDA lands in Bara Sirohi, Maswanpur, Panki Gangaganj and Daheli Sujanpur, identifying land worth Rs 8 billion.

KDA is additionally conducting land verification of developed residential schemes and has tracked roughly 1200 plots.
