Karnataka approves plan to develop satellite towns near Bengaluru, ET RealEstate

BENGALURU: In a bid to decongest Bengaluru, the State Cabinet approved a plan for developing satellite towns connected by road and rail to Bengaluru. The towns of Devanahalli, Nelamangala, Hoskote, Doddaballapur, and Magadi are set to be developed under this plan.

Briefing the media after the Cabinet meet on Thursday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil said, “Under the Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBDA), the Ramnagar district including areas like Bidadi Hobli, Byramangala, Bannigiri, Hosur, Kempaiah Palya, and Harohalli Hobli, will be developed as part of the “Greater Bengaluru Suburban Project.”

Patil said that as per the 2024-25 state budget para 270, the government has announced the development of towns surrounding Bengaluru, including Devanahalli, Nelamangala, Hoskote, Doddaballapur, and Bidadi.

These will be transformed into attractive urban areas with strong road and rail connectivity, creating new employment opportunities.

According to government notification the Bidadi Smart City project will be integrated into the Greater Bengaluru development scheme, making it a key focus area for urban growth.

Land acquisition

He said that in line with the new plan, around 6,023 acres of land in the areas of Bidadi, Byramangala, Bannigeri, Hosur, KG Kanchugaranahalli, Aralalusandra, Kempayyanapalya, and Harohalli will be acquired and developed. This land will be part of a larger area of 8,943 acres, with significant portions earmarked for public purposes, such as hamlet settlements, water bodies, and public parks.
