BELAGAVI: To counter escalating instances of fraudulent property transactions and manipulation of land records, Karnataka government has unveiled plans to digitize all old realty-related documents at taluk offices across the state. This strategic move, while ensuring transparency and efficiency in maintaining land records, will also allow easy accessibility to those records.

The initiative, Bhu Suraksha, is set to be launched within a month, starting with one taluk in each of the 31 districts, minister Krishna Byregowda said Wednesday. tnn

The programme will gradually be rolled out to cover all 236 taluks in the state, involving an investment of Rs 30 crore for procurement of fresh equipment and appointment of personnel.

The revenue minister underscored the challenges faced by citizens in accessing property documents and the government’s resolve to address the issue.

“Once the documents are successfully converted into a digital format, they will be handed over to the respective property owners,” Byregowda added. He assured allocation of adequate funds for the project, including provisions for the purchase of essential equipment such as computers, scanners, and hiring of data-entry operators.
