KOZHIKODE: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has expressed concerns over the lack of communication on the part of Kerala govt after Karnataka govt offered to construct 100 homes for the survivors of Wayanad landslide.

In a letter to CM Pinarayi Vijayan, he said that due to a lack of response from Kerala, Karnataka was not able to move forward with the commitment it made.

On Aug 3, Siddaramaiah had announced on social media platform ‘X’ that he had assured Vijayan of the state’s support and that Karnataka will construct 100 homes for the landslide survivors.

In a letter sent to Vijayan on Monday, Siddaramaiah also offered to purchase land for constructing these homes. “Kindly recall that during my visit to Wayanad following the unfortunate landslide, I had announced my govt’s commitment to donate 100 houses to support the affected families. This initiative was aimed at providing a secure and stable environment for those who lost their homes, livelihoods, and dear ones,” he said.

The Karnataka CM said the announcement was duly communicated to the chief secretary of Kerala for further action. “It is concerning that no communication was received from the govt of Kerala regarding the set guidelines to implement this project and this is preventing us from moving ahead with our commitment,” said Siddaramaiah, adding that he was looking forward to Kerala govt’s response and collaboration in this matter.
