Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York unveils 2024 designer roster

The next installment of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, the biggest fundraiser for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, will unfold in a 65th Street townhouse on New York’s Upper East Side. Opening to the public on May 2, the showcase will feature the handiwork of 24 powerhouse architects and designers, including AD PRO Directory members Hollander Design Landscape Architects, Huma Sulaiman Design, Lucinda Loya Interiors, M. Naeve, Shawn Henderson, and Workshop/APD, as well as Alan Tanksley, Aman & Meeks, Barbara Ostrom Associates, Benjamin Vandiver Interiors + Lifestyle, Bennett Leifer Interiors, Beth Diana Smith Interior Design, Jeremiah Brent Design, Justin Scott Interiors, Kit Kemp Design Studio, McMillen, Michelle Gerson Interiors, Mikel Welch Designs, Nina Seirafi Interior Design, Patrick Mele, Phillip Thomas, St. Charles New York, Swati Goorha Designs, and Vanessa Deleon Designs.

AD PRO Hears…

…Boston-based interior designer Frank Roop has launched The Textilium Project, a source for designer-culled fabric schemes using only all-natural fibers and inspired by landscapes. It’s soft goods made simple: Within each of the platform’s 90-some Swatch Boxes, shoppers receive eight fabric samples (many only available to the trade) specified for window treatments, wall coverings, seating, and pillows. Once set on a scheme, the platform offers a virtual workroom for connecting shoppers with fabricators.

…husband-and-wife duo Gavin Brodin and Kelley Anderson seek to resolve the delivery headaches of large-scale sculpture with Formed For, a trade-only resource. The gallery’s organic-shaped artworks—crafted from bronze and stainless, colored, or Corten steel—can be personalized in size and finish before being sent off in the studio’s in-house, white-glove delivery service.

Design Happenings

Charleston by Design flashes a contemporary lens on the Aiken-Rhett House Museum

Last week, Charleston by Design kicked off the month-long Charleston Festival (through April 14) with a celebration of the South Carolina port city’s stunning interiors, landscapes, and decorative arts through the lens of preservation. In addition to lectures set in the early 19th-century Second Presbyterian Church (AD’s global editor and director Amy Astley moderated a discussion with Thomas Jayne and William Cullum of New York’s Jayne Design Studio), local designers thoughtfully contemporized the Aiken-Rhett House Museum with a series of theatrical vignettes.

On the first and second floors of the 1820s manse, Aldous Bertram, Alison Brewer (Gray Wade Design), Glen Gardner and Patrick Bradley (Charleston Gardenworks), Lori DeNicola (Petaloso), Amy Pastre and Courtney Rowson (SDCO Partners), Rebecca Gardner (Houses & Parties), and Stephanie Molster juxtaposed their classy interventions with the museum’s richly detailed historic settings. Consider Brewer’s second-floor entry, where a Paula Rubin painting was backdropped by a floral screen; Molster’s bedroom starring a half-tester canopy sleigh bed; or Gardner and Bradley’s garden folly enlivened with sculptures.
