KOLHAPUR: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has collected only Rs464 crore out of a target of Rs568 crore through various taxes in the 2023-24 financial year, which ended on March 31.
The town planning department garnered Rs91.8 crore from a given target of Rs88 crore, collected through various building permissions, layout sanctioning and other services. The department is also the highest earner among all the departments of the civic body.
“Despite being short staffed, the town planning department’s revenue achievement is praiseworthy,” said a senior KMC official.
The property tax department is the second highest collector, earning over Rs73 crore. The department had set a target of Rs108 crore.
Authorities were expected to catalyse the process of bringing in new properties under the tax net and revise property taxes for properties which have changed.
The water supply department stood at third position, collecting Rs47 crore tax from a target of Rs 80 crore.
The KMC officials claimed that the water tax revenue slowly increases every year because of mounting dues from govt establishments.
The KMC is expecting higher revenue from the estate fees. This year, it has collected Rs8 crore. The KMC is planning to strictly implement the hike in the estate rents from next week.
