KOCHI: The station works for Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s (KMRL) phase II line from JLN Stadium to Kakkanad face delays due to an extension in land acquisition procedures.
Revenue authorities have extended the validity of the 11(1) notification for six months, pushing back the issuance of the 19(1) notification for several stations.
“The 11(1) notification for land acquisition has been issued for stations at Palarivattom, Kakkanad, CSEZ, Chitethukara, and Kinfra. However, the 19(1) notification has not been published for stations except CSEZ and Chitethukara. In this context, the validity of the 11(1) notification for land acquisition for the Metro stations from J L N Stadium to Kakkanad Infopark is extended by six months from Oct 31,” says the order issued by the revenue authorities.
Piling works for the construction of the viaduct and the CEZ Metro station commenced in September. KMRL announced that the 11.2 km project would be completed within 20 months. Preliminary activities, including preparatory works along various sections of the proposed route from JLN Stadium to InfoPark, were initiated ahead of full-scale construction.
The delay in issuing the 19(1) notification is attributed to ongoing disputes over land ownership. Soil tests have been carried out at various locations along the viaduct route, and a topographical survey has also been completed. New stations are planned at Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal, Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ, Chittethukara, KINFRA, and InfoPark.
