GURUGRAM: A large parcel of land earmarked for a co-operative group housing society in Sector 10A has turned into a festering ground for filth, disease, and antisocial activities, said residents of Sector 10A.

Located near the sector’s police station, the site—originally intended for residential development—now lies in neglect, with mounds of construction and demolition (C&D) debris, solid waste, and garbage swept from roads being dumped here.

“Every time it rains, the plot gets waterlogged. The stagnant water raises a stink and becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, leading to frequent outbreaks of fever and other vector-borne diseases,” said Udaybir Yadav, a resident of Sector 10A.

“Vehicles involved in legal cases are parked here. Antisocial elements have been seen loitering around the area at night. Auto-rickshaws and taxis are also routinely parked here. Some people have even started using it as a urinal. It is disheartening that this is the condition of a colony planned by HSVP. We spent our life savings to build homes here only to be in such unhygienic conditions,” Yadav added.

Repeated complaints to MCG and HSVP fell on deaf ears, the resident said.

Stray cattle and street dogs further aggravate the problem. “There is an unbearable stench in the area. People who feed cows and birds leave behind polythene bags, adding to the garbage accumulating on the piece of land. This land is in a prime location, but it is being grossly misused. If the land is earmarked for a housing society, then work should begin on it. Until then, the area must be cleaned regularly, signboards must be put up to prohibit dumping, and a boundary wall should be erected to prevent unauthorised access,” said SR Yadav, another resident.

Meanwhile, Rakesh Saini, estate officer 1, HSVP, said, “I will carry out an inspection of the site and initiate the action required.”
