Among the five prominent districts of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow witnessed the highest number of installations of rooftop solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15 this year. Other four districts- Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi and Prayagraj- are also seeing growing interest among the people for solar power generation.
According to a press release, a total 11, 435 solar panels have become operational in Lucknow while the number of installed solar rooftop panels in Varanasi is 4088. Kanpur, Agra and Prayagraj are seeing fast installation of solar rooftop panels.
As per the state government’s data, 1909 such panels have been installed in Kanpur while the number of installed panels in Agra and Prayagraj is 1364 and 1349 in the last sevenths since the launch of this scheme.
UP Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh recently reviewed the progress achieved by the power department in the solar power generation in the state. The press release added that chief minister Yogi Adityatnath is closely monitoring the progress of this scheme.
The PM Surya Ghar Yojana aims to permanently resolve the issue of availability of electricity in the country through solar energy. The UP government is making its all best efforts to promote this scheme among people and ensure nearly free power supply to them.
CM Yogi has already set specific targets for all 75 districts for the installation of solar rooftop panels on residential buildings. The press release claimed that the campaign for this scheme is in full swing in all the districts. Chief Secretary Singh has directed the power department to expedite the work.
More than 17.75 lakh registrations have been completed under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana in the state so far. About 3200 homes have already got installed solar rooftop panels. Under this scheme, a subsidy of ₹30,000 is provided by the Central Government and ₹15,000 by the State Government, totalling ₹45,000 for a 1-kilowatt rooftop installation.
Similarly, the scheme offers a combined subsidy of rs 90,000 (60,000 from the centre and 30,000 from the state) for a 2-kilowatt installation. For the installations of 3 kilowatts and above, a total subsidy of rs1.08 lakh is provided, comprising ₹78,000 from the Central Government and ₹30,000 from the State.
The Yogi government has set a target to get solar panels installed on 25 lakh homes across the state. To achieve this, the specific targets have been fixed for all the seven DISCOMs and each district.
