LUDHIANA: The municipal corporation (MC) demolished multiple illegal commercial constructions and an illegal colony in the city on Tuesday as part of an ongoing crackdown on unauthorised development.
Teams from MC’s zones C and D razed 10 illegal structures, including under-construction shops and residential buildings, in various areas. Officials stated that the operation was carried out under the direction of MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal and that similar enforcement actions would continue.
In Zone C, the MC officials demolished four illegal under-construction shops near Kartar Chowk, along with three under-construction food courts near Matharoo Chowk and Guru Gobind Singh Nagar. Additionally, an illegal under-construction colony in Guru Gobind Singh Nagar was razed, and two residential buildings were sealed for lacking approved building plans.
In Zone D, MC’s building branch team demolished three illegal under-construction shops in Sunet and an unauthorised section of a residential building in Raghunath Enclave on Barewal Road.
Warning to residents
Civic officials urged residents to seek proper approvals before initiating any construction work. “Strict action will be taken against those who fail to obtain approved building plans,” an MC official said. Authorities concerned also emphasised that the demolition campaign will continue in the coming days as part of efforts to curb unauthorised developments and enforce urban planning regulations.
