BHOPAL: MP High Court stayed the construction of a colony in the Narmada corridor in Jabalpur and issued notices to respondents, including urban development principal secretary, Jabalpur collector, municipal commissioner of Jabalpur and the builder.
A Jabalpur resident, Mahendra Dixit, said that the space between Gauri Ghat and Uma Ghat near the old railway station in Jabalpur is earmarked for the construction of the Narmada corridor. Yet, the builder, Jagdish Patel, has constructed a colony in the area.
No permission was taken for the construction, and no plan was submitted, the petitioner said. The municipal commissioner and SDM in charge of the area had ordered the demolition of houses in the illegal colony in the past, but for two years, there has been no action for the removal of the colony.
As a result, not only are people living there, but over 100 buffaloes are also being reared in those houses. Illegal dairies being operated in the colony are polluting the atmosphere and making the area prone to vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue, the petition said.
After the initial hearing, the bench of acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf stayed further construction of the colony and issued notices to the respondents.
