MUMBAI: Ready Reckoner rates (RR rates) will not increase by a flat 10% across the state, said revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Responding to questions from members in the legislative council on Wednesday, Bawankule assured the poor would not be taxed exorbitantly.

“There are news reports that the RR rate will be increased by 10-15%, but this is false. RR rates were last increased in 2022-23. A survey was carried out across the state, and I strictly warned there cannot be any arbitrary hike,” he said.

“The govt has no intention of increasing prices in any part of the state, but while determining prices, factors like local conditions, development rate, demand, and supply are considered.

In every district, a committee under the district collector determines the prices based on the advice of local people’s representatives and experts. In some areas, there is a lot of activity, and in others, there is not much sale,” he said.
