NAGPUR: In a decisive move to accelerate Nagpur’s urban development, revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has mandated strict adherence to project timelines across all major infrastructure initiatives in the city. During a high-level meeting at Mantralaya in Mumbai on Tuesday, the minister emphasised that administrative delays would not be tolerated in the city’s development agenda.
Leading a comprehensive review of ongoing projects, Bawankule, who is also Maharashtra BJP president, brought together key officials from major civic bodies including the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The meeting was attended by top bureaucrats including additional chief secretary (urban development-1) Asim Gupta, principal secretary (urban development-2) KH Govindraj, NMRDA chairman Sanjay Meena, and NMC commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary.
“Any funding shortfalls should be immediately flagged through proper proposals,” Bawankule instructed, announcing the appointment of a dedicated officer to track proposals submitted to the urban development department. The minister’s directive specifically addressed pending NMC projects, with particular focus on initiatives under the Smart City and AMRUT-2 schemes.
Presiding over a meeting at Mantralaya, the minister stressed the importance of swift execution and effective planning by authorities, noting that delays in development work impact citizens’ daily lives and the pace of urban progress.
Minister Reviews PWD Projects in Nagpur Region
In a parallel development, Bawankule conducted a separate review of public works department (PWD) projects in the region. At this meeting, attended by public works minister Shivrendra Singh Bhosale and other senior officials, he pushed for expedited processing of pending proposals and additional funding requests.
Bawankule outlined specific priorities including the construction of MLA Hostel, IAS/IPS quarters, Nag Bhavan, and a new administrative building for the PWD. “Development work cannot be allowed to stagnate due to bureaucratic hurdles or resource constraints,” he emphasised, setting clear expectations for project execution.
The review encompassed key projects, including new residential and administrative facilities, aimed at bolstering infrastructure for govt officials and enhancing the city’s public facilities.
