KOCHI: On Vishu day, Maradu municipality is set to provide land deeds to five families, classified as being in the extremely poor category. Three cents of land will be allocated to each family by the local body, using the municipality’s own funds.

Earlier, the municipality had given land deeds to five other families classified in the extremely poor category. “The municipality already purchased land from the local body’s own funds and each individual will receive a three-cent land worth Rs 2.7 lakh,” said municipality chairperson Antony Ashanparambil.

The municipality officials said that those who receive the land will be co-opted into the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and the local body will provide assistance for the construction of houses there. Meanwhile, the officials said residential flats constructed by the local body for eight Scheduled Caste families will be handed over in the coming week.
