KANPUR: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Friday vehemently protested to KDA secretary, stating that more than a dozen houses were constructed on government pond land at Maswanpur, and KDA had not taken any measures to prevent the pond land.
Mayor, who visited Maswanpur under her ‘Mayor in your ward’ programme to address local civic issues, witnessed the entire situation. The residents informed her that Farra Natki pond was government property, but numerous individuals had filled the pond and constructed residential houses.
Mayor immediately inspected the pond site and was astounded to find the dimensions diminished as people had filled it and built their houses.
The residents complained that property encroachers had seized the pond and parceled it into plots for sale to prospective buyers.
Pandey assured the residents of stringent action and summoned Abhay Pandey, secretary Kanpur Development Authority. She apprised him of the situation and directed him to conduct a spot inspection and reclaim the pond from illegal occupants.
