Every project begins in the kitchen for this rising star. “It’s really the guts of the house to me,” explains McDonald. No surprise, given that this AD PRO Directory member got her start designing kitchens and baths for her builder father. After renovation jobs for friends snowballed into full-scale projects, McDonald (pictured at a Minnesota home) launched her own firm in 2018, imbuing historic houses and contemporary buildings alike with her sophisticated twist on classicism. Current projects range from a beach retreat in Manzanita, Oregon, to a 250-acre compound outside Asheville, North Carolina. Her latest job, though, stays especially close to her creative roots: This fall, she debuts a line of cabinetry for Isla Porter. annemcdonalddesign.com
