Traveling the globe in her 20s, Holmberg found inspiration in the ways other cultures (Nepalese, Indian, Moroccan) overlapped colors, patterns, and textures in single rooms. “That had a really big influence,” says the Baltimore-born, AD PRO Directory designer, who studied English before getting her master’s in fine arts. “The ‘rules’ became very different.” Since starting her eponymous firm four years ago, Holmberg (pictured at home) continues to find inspiration around the world. “Instead of any one pigeon-holed perspective, we are motivated by layers,” she explains. Today, her all-female office blends styles, references, and periods in a sly subversion of any one aesthetic, evident in projects in California, Connecticut, and beyond. susannahholmberg.com
