PUNE: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a show-cause notice to IT firm Cybage Software Private Limited seeking its reply within seven days for flouting environment norms in the construction of its new building in Kalyaninagar.
If the firm failed to submit its reply within the stipulated period, MPCB would initiate action against the project, the notice, issued on Friday, stated. In the notice, MPCB stated that the firm had exceeded the noise limits during the construction of its new tower in Kalyaninagar. Besides, the pollution board also found water being discharged into the nearby nullah during the excavation work of the building.
“In view of the above non-compliance, you are hereby directed to show cause as to why your existing bank guarantee shall not be forfeited. Why shall we not initiate further legal action against your construction project.” JS Salunkhe, regional officer, MPCB, Pune, said in the order, which was issued following complaints by the residents of Kumar Kruti housing society.
The firm spokesperson, in a statement, said they had all legal clearances for the works and would not want to comment further on the issue.
The residents of the Kumar Kruti housing society had complained about the excessive noise and dust emanating from the construction site of the firm. “We are considering shifting to a different locality till the construction work is complete as it has become difficult to bear the noise. Clouds of dust from the construction site have exacerbated the breathing problem in my daughter,” a resident said.
Following complaints from the society residents, MPCB officials had visited the site on Aug 12 and Oct 10 to check for various compliances. MPCB observed that the firm was conducting blasting activity without renewing its no-objection certificate, which lapsed on Aug 24.
“The noise levels have been found exceeded 80-90 decibels at the construction site. The dust has impacted the living conditions of people residing nearby. The firm has also not used screens or drums for sound absorption during digging. It is conducting blasting works without proper permissions. Cracks are visible in the clubhouse of our society and one of the pillars in a building because of the construction work,” Munir Vastani, former secretary of the society, told TOI.
