NASHIK: Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri on Saturday stressed on the need for concerted efforts between the civic administration and the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Limited for effective realisation of development projects in the city.
Khatri, who visited Ramkund for the second day on the trot after assuming charge of NMC, said the visit aimed at assessing development requirements at the sacred site set to host Kumbh Mela from 2026. “Both the institutions are working for the development of Nashik city. On-the-spot assessment, however, shows that there are some grey areas that need better coordination to ensure faster and efficient completion of development works,” she said.
On the Ram-Kal Path, a central govt initiative for sustainable tourism in Nashik, the civic chief noted the insufficient progress, including delays in master plan finalisation. She said govt agencies should start work on development projects in the core areas of the city instead of waiting for the appointment of consultants for the project. “The respective agencies are aware of the basic projects. All the works related to the beautification of the areas, including Ramkund and Sita Gumfa, can start subsequently,” Khatri said.
“The works will be carried out through various departments, including disaster management, state archaeology, water resources, public works, and others as required. The installation of murals and other beautification works for the Ram Kal Path will start after the appointment of the consultant, which will take about a month. We cannot afford to lose more time,” she said.
The civic chief highlighted concerns about pollution in Godavari River pollution and said measures would soon be implemented to reduce contamination in the river water. “Technical issues have to be sorted out to ensure proper discharge of the effluent after treatment,” she added.
