NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has witnessed online payments for 60% of the total Rs 140 crore property tax collection done in the first seven-and-a-half months of the current financial year.

The civic body garnered property tax amounting to Rs 140 crore between April 1 and Nov 20 of the 2024-25 financial year. Out of Rs140 crore, Rs 84 crore was paid online by property owners (60%).

The civic body collected Rs206 crore property tax in the financial year 2023-24, including Rs 100 crore paid online, which accounted for around 50% of the total property tax collection. This figure has now increased to 60% so far.

Those paying property tax online are given a 1% rebate in property tax bills.

Apart from the 1% rebate on the tax amount for those paying online, the NMC administration introduced tax rebates this financial year to incentivise property taxpayers who pay the complete annual property tax. Prompt taxpayers who paid the annual property tax in April were given an 8% rebate, while those who paid in May received a 6% rebate. Those who paid the complete property tax in June were given a 3% rebate.

Introduction of rebates for prompt taxpayers yielded good results, as NMC was able to mop up Rs 106 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year.

NMC has set the property tax collection target of Rs 250 crore for the current financial year.

By the end of Sept, the civic body collected Rs 127 crore in property tax, against Rs 125 crore during the same corresponding period last financial year.
