Navi Mumbai civic body collects Rs 800 crore property tax in FY25, ET RealEstate

NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has collected more than Rs 800 crore in property tax for the first time since it was established 30 years ago. Despite surpassing Rs 800 crore by March 31, the civic body fell short of its Rs 900 crore target for 2024-25. The previous financial year of 2023-24 saw collections of Rs 666 crore against a target of Rs 801 crore. Of the 3,46,301 property holders in the NMMC jurisdiction, 3,13,197 cleared their dues by 2024-25. — B B Nayak

Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has collected more than Rs 800 crore in property tax for the first time since it was established 30 years ago.

Despite surpassing Rs 800 crore by March 31, the civic body fell short of its Rs 900 crore target for 2024-25. The previous financial year of 2023-24 saw collections of Rs 666 crore against a target of Rs 801 crore. Of the 3,46,301 property holders in the NMMC jurisdiction, 3,13,197 cleared their dues by 2024-25.

Property tax department collected Rs 826.1 crore, including Rs 20.97 crore through an amnesty scheme from March 10 to 31, offering 50% reduction in late payment penalty. Commending responsible tax payment, NMMC commissioner Kailas Shinde said, “Developmental work in the city depends on revenue source like property tax and people have come forward to contribute their share.” — B B Nayak
