QuadReal Property Group has appointed Blair Hagkull to its board of directors. 

Hagkull’s career has spanned 35 years and 20 countries across North America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He was most recently managing director at Integris Advisors in Victoria, B.C. 

“Blair’s varied market experience, relentless passion for real estate and advancement of the industry as well as his success as an entrepreneur is of great value to the board,” QuadReal board chair Tom Garbutt said in a released statement. 

Hagkull launched his career at Concord Pacific Group before moving on to numerous roles in the United Arab Emirates. His Dubai-based roles included general manager at Emaar Properties PJSC, co-founder and managing partner of RSP Group, and five years as JLL’s chairman and managing director for the Middle East and North Africa.

Hagkull has also served on numerous boards, most recently as chair of the international advisory board at the University of Victoria’s Gustavson School of Business. He was previously governance chair of the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, chair of St. Michael’s University School, a trustee at the American School of Dubai, and chair of the Urban Land Institute, ULI Middle East. 

Kalil, Young appointed to Alignvest board

Alignvest Student Housing REIT has appointed Greg Kalil and William (Bill) Young as trustees. 

Kalil has been CEO of Glengarry Farm Finance since 2021 and the CEO of Stormont Partners since he founded it in 2017. Stormont is a Toronto-based merchant bank offering advisory services to the Canadian real estate industry.

Prior to that, he spent 12 years as a managing partner at Brookfield Financial, the investment banking unit of Brookfield Asset Management.

Young was a co-founder and partner at Boston-based Monitor Clipper Partners as well as a founding partner of Westbourne Management Group.

He currently serves as board chair at AtkinsRéalis, Intact Financial Corp., and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. He chaired the board of Magna International from 2012 until 2022. 

Peter Wall joins Wall Financial board

Peter Wall, the founder and controlling shareholder of Wall Financial Corp. (WFC-T), has been appointed to the company’s board of directors. 

In the early 1960s, Wall and his cousin Peter Redekopp established the firm Wall & Redekopp to run a number of construction, lumber and farming businesses in British Columbia. The company was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 1973 and became Wall Financial Corp. in 1988.

Since 1969 it has developed more than 30,000 homes (including over 15,000 rental units in the metro Vancouver area), two major hotels, and more than 10,000 condo units. 

Genesis names PS Sidhu president, COO

Genesis Land Development Corp. (GDC-T) has announced several promotions within its ranks. 

After 17 years with the company, PS Sidhu has been appointed president and chief operating officer. His previous titles were president and senior vice-president of Genesis Builders Group (GBG). 

Brian Whitwell, a 15-year veteran of the firm who was most recently senior VP of asset management, is now chief asset and investment officer. Brendan McCashin has moved up from VP of land development to the position of senior VP, land development. Mike deBoer has become VP of homebuilding after serving as director of operations at GBG. Virat Reddy, who was previously the firm’s corporate controller, is now VP of finance and technology. 

Birk moves to MCAN as SVP, CFO

Santokh Birk is the new senior vice-president and chief financial officer of MCAN Mortgage Corp., a division of MCAN Financial Group (MKP-T).

Birk joins MCAN from Home Trust Company, where he was senior VP of finance and chief accounting officer. His 28-year real estate career in Canada, the U.S. and the Middle East has included previous positions with HSBC and KPMG. 

Zurevinski to head USask Properties Investment 

Brad Zurevinski has been appointed the inaugural president and CEO of USask Properties Investment Inc. 

Zurevinski has been general manager of Dream Development Saskatoon since 2013. Prior to that, he was managing leader of the urban development division at Stantec Consulting in Saskatoon.

He is the incoming vice-chair of the Saskatoon and Region Home Builders’ Association and received the 2023 Award of Honour from the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. 

Canada ICI expands mortgage team

Canada ICI Capital Corp. has welcomed three new members to its team. 

Joining the company as senior directors of mortgage origination are Brian Faddoul and Frédérik Roux. Faddoul was previously president of Fabrik Capital, while Roux was founding partner of WRY Real Estate. Alexandre Caron-Brulotte, who most recently worked as a mortgage analyst at PMML, has taken on the same role at Canada ICI.

Papassotiriou takes operations post at KIC

Angela Papassotiriou has joined Calgary-based KIC Realty as vice-president of operations. 

Her 35 years of experience in real estate operations and management have featured roles at Sotheby’s International Realty in Toronto and, most recently, at Engel & Völkers Toronto City, where she was executive director of operations.

Wilson joins Colliers Vancouver

Kyle Wilson has joined Colliers Canada as vice-president, sales representative in Vancouver. 

Wilson’s move to Colliers follows nearly 20 years at Cushman & Wakefield, where his most recent title was vice-president. He advised and represented many national and international clients there, including TD Bank, Mosaic, Boffo Developments, Headwater Projects, and Hungerford Properties.
