INDORE: Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) is contemplating development of residential complexes for the workforce in industrial areas, particularly those emerging on the periphery of the city.

The industry department is currently formulating plans to construct residential blocks at Vikram Udhyogpuri industrial area in Ujjain and Mandideep industrial area in Bhopal.

“There are residential zones in industrial belts that would be developed to accommodate the workforce and cater to the demands of industries. This will facilitate the creation of an ecosystem for industries, especially those situated at a distance from the main city area,” said MPIDC managing director Chandramauli Shukla.

MPIDC will initiate a tender process for the development of residential blocks in the state’s industrial belts.

Initially, a select few industrial areas with high occupancy will be chosen for the development of residences for the workforce and spaces for industries.

MPIDC, Indore has also submitted a proposal for the development of more than 1000 residential flats in Sector 1 and Sector 6 at Pithampur, including EWS, studio apartments, 2 BHK, and 3 BHK units. The projected cost of constructing 1,362 flats is Rs 211 crore, excluding the land cost.

Pithampur is home to more than 1000 industries, and according to industry estimates, the industrial belt requires approximately 15,000-20,000 houses.

“Housing is a fundamental requirement for any industrial area. In Pithampur, thousands of workers and employees commute daily from Indore and Dewas. Many of them would have preferred residing in Pithampur, but the absence of a proper ecosystem and facilities in industrial belts act as a deterrent,” remarked Pithampur Audhyogik Sanghatan president Gautam Kothari.
