PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation recently identified around 2,500 commercial establishments for not following fire safety norms and started to send them notices on Wednesday for non-compliance.
The civic body said immediate intervention was required at these properties, which would be given a specific time to make necessary fire arrangements as per rules.
It may be noted that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) initiated around 250 women from self-help groups to conduct a fire safety survey of all commercial establishments in October last year.
Out of 75,000, 43,925 registered commercial establishments — including hospitals, schools, shops and industrial units, were surveyed till the first week of January. It was found that one or the other fire safety rule had been missed at each.
Meanwhile, civic officials expect the number of non-compliant commercial establishments to reach 1 lakh or more, since a large number of unregistered properties were also expected to be identified in the survey.
