BHUBANESWAR: To provide quality living to the urban populace, housing and urban development department has asked urban local bodies across the state to initiate the application process to provide houses to people in urban areas under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0.

In a letter to the municipal commissioners and executive officers of the ULBs, Odisha Housing Urban Mission Director, Gangadhar Nayak, asked them to create clear and adequate awareness among the applicants and facilitate them to ensure maximum coverage under the scheme.

“The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched the PMAY-U 2.0 Unified Web-portal Beneficiary Application Module, which is a user-friendly platform that allows applicants to apply for the houses directly,” Nayak wrote.

He stated that the applicants can access the PMAY-U 2.0 application or survey form on the ministry’s unified web portal. While applying, applicants, including family members, shall have an Aadhar card, income certificate, and land ownership document, Nayak mentioned.

“In order to create awareness among beneficiaries, several activities are suggested to be organised by the urban local bodies, like displaying banners or hoardings in suitable locations, exhibiting standees at the application desk or ward-wise camp, and circulating awareness videos,” he stated.

Nayak further mentioned in the letter that in addition to the awareness activities, it is suggested to play recorded audio announcements in the Swachh Sawari Vehicles in the urban local bodies. He said that the audio and video materials will be issued by OUHM.

“Further, to provide a hassle-free application experience, it is necessary to facilitate beneficiaries by conducting various activities like setting up an application desk at each ULB, organising camps at each ward, and coordinating with Jan Seva Kendras to provide service at a reasonable fee,” he states.

Notably, the housing and urban affairs ministry launched the PMAY-U 2.0 on Sept 17 this year to provide houses to the urban populace. The scheme is being implemented in four verticals with effect from Sept 1, 2024, for the next five years.

In the first edition of the housing scheme, the state achieved completion of houses under the beneficiary-led constructions as well as affordable housing in public-private partnership mode. In Bhubaneswar alone, there are four such affordable housing projects that saw completion.
