BHUBANESWAR: More than 600 beneficiaries have received keys to their dream homes at three affordable housing projects in the city in the second phase. With this, the total number of beneficiaries has gone up to 1,290 since the inauguration of the projects.

In the first phase of allotment, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), which executed the housing projects for the urban poor at Chandrasekharpur, Satya Nagar and Subuddhipur, had handed over the keys of homes to 659 beneficiaries.

In the second phase, 631 more beneficiaries got their houses, officials said. As per data, in the second phase, the highest allotment was made in the Buddha Vihar project in Chandrasekharpur area. At Buddha Vihar, 361 beneficiaries received keys to their homes in the second phase. Similarly, in the Satya Nagar project, 121 more families got their houses and at Subuddhipur, 149 beneficiaries moved in to their dream homes.

During the inauguration in November last year, 303 families got their houses in Buddha Vihar, 326 in Satya Nagar and 30 beneficiaries in Subuddhipur.

The three projects have a total of 1,722 ready-to-move in homes. In March this year, BDA had inaugurated a fourth such project at Chandrasekharpur where 455 beneficiaries received keys to their houses. BDA officials said allotment in the housing project is still going on and the number of occupants will go up soon. BDA has executed these projects under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme of the state govt. The objective is to provide quality living, especially to slum dwellers, who were displaced or affected by execution of various development works in the capital.

The dwelling units have a total carpet area of 250 square feet with one hall, one bedroom, one bathroom and one kitchenette. The beneficiaries are entitled to pay their share of Rs 1.5 lakh for getting a home.

“BDA in its endeavour to improve the quality of urban life has come up with such housing projects which aim to providing quality housing to the poor. The projects are equipped with all necessary amenities,” said Balwant Singh, vice-chairman (BDA).
