GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat has achieved a milestone in the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna. A total of more than 14 lakh houses have been constructed in 9 years under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Gujarat, this includes over 8.68 lakh housing units in the state under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) while over 5.57 lakh housing units under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) have been completed.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, the scheme aims at providing proper housing to the economically weaker sections of society and to the homeless people in the rural areas in order to improve their standard of living.
More than five lakh 40 thousand houses have been approved in the name of women or in the name of joint ownership, as per a statement. Notably, under this scheme, 3.22 lakh (60 percent) houses have been allotted to Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste beneficiaries.
Gujarat is ahead of other states in the country in benefiting more than 6 lakh beneficiaries on their first housing loan under the Credit Link Subsidy component of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (urban).
“My house was raw, mud. On rainy days, water was falling from the roof of the building. Day and night, me and my family lived in fear that this building would collapse at any time. I used to worry a lot about my family.
However, after my house was sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, I got a roofed house and other basic amenities. Now me and my family are very happy, “said Kiranben Rathore, a resident of Khadat village in Mansa taluk of Gandhinagar, who got his dream house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), as per the release.
In addition, the Central Government announced in the year 2020 under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to provide affordable rental housing to the urban poor and workers under the Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) scheme, as per the release.
Within three months of this announcement, Gujarat has become the first state in the country to get approval for the project by converting 393 houses built in the Suda area of Surat city of Gujarat into rental houses under Model-01.
Six states from across India were selected by the Central Government for the Global Housing Technology–India Light House project, out of which Rajkot in Gujarat was selected.
A total of 1144 dwellings of EWS-2 type with 39.77 square meters of carpet area have been constructed using monolithic concrete construction technology under the Site House Project in Rajkot, as per a statement. In addition, an assistance of Rs20,000 has been paid separately as additional incentive assistance under the Chief Minister’s Incentive Scheme under the 100 per cent Phala Yojana of the State Government.
A total of 14 awards have been awarded to Gujarat so far for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). In the year 2017, Gujarat was awarded the first position under Credit Link Subsidy by the Central Government. Later in 2019, awards were given to Gujarat by the Central Government for PM Awas.
Three beneficiaries of Gujarat State were awarded in the Best House Construction category under the BLC component, as per the release.
Subsequently, in the year 2022, Gujarat was awarded by the Central Government in seven different categories for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). 3 Awards to Gujarat for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). The overall performance in implementation of PMAY (Rural) award by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India in 2018-19 was given to Dang district which stood first.
In 2019-20, Ranawav taluka of Porbandar district was awarded the second best overall performance in implementation of PMAY (Rural).
In 2019-20, Extension Officer of Kathlal of Kheda district, A.K. Shrimali and office bearer of Vijayanagar in Sabarkantha district, Sarpanchshree, Sarlaben Ninama were given the award for individual best performance.
