PUNE: Around 53,000 new properties were added to the tax ambit of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the 2023–24 fiscal. The civic body estimated that they would generate revenue of Rs 170 crore.

As per the civic officials, the properties under PMC’s jurisdiction were around 8 lakh in 2017. Since then, 4.5 lakh properties have been added as 34 areas were merged into the PMC’s limits. Among these, 11 areas were merged in 2017 and the remaining 23 were added in 2021.

“The administration has appealed to the owners to register their properties with the civic body. Ward-wise teams have been formed to identify unregistered properties,” Madhav Jagtap, head of PMC’s property tax department, told TOI. According to the civic body data, it recorded a revenue of around Rs 2,275 crore in the fiscal year 2023–24.

In a rare occurrence, the building permissions department of the PMC earned over Rs 2,400 crore in the same period, significantly more than property tax.

“PMC conducted special drives to search for and add properties to the tax ambit. It tied up with the building permissions department to identify new constructions and allot completion certificates,” a senior official from PMC said.
