Police arrest two for duping developer of Rs 79 lakh, ET RealEstate

KOLKATA: The Kolkata Police (KP) arrested two persons for duping a south Kolkata developer of Rs 79 lakh, posing as representatives of local Block Land & Land Reforms Office (BLRO), on the pretext of facilitating the ‘smooth launch’ of a joint venture real estate project at Amarvati in Sodepur. However, the project didn’t take off.

The accused, Subhajt Roy alias Bhombal (35) and Bikram Roy (24), of Nawpara in North 24 Parganas used fake work orders to extract money from the 49-year-old victim from Ritchie Road area, claimed the police.

The victim had lodged a complaint with Beniapukur police station on Oct 4 last year under sections 318(4)/319/336(3)/338/340/61(2) of the BNS Act.

” The accused entered into a criminal conspiracy and fabricated work orders to use them as genuine and induced the complainant to pay Rs 78.9 lakh in instalments,” said Rupesh Kumar, joint CP (Crime & Traffic).

“The two accused persons, Subhajit and Bikram, were arrested on Thursday night from Barasat PS jurisdiction,”he said, adding that the accused were taken in police custody after production at at the Sealdah court.
