CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) on Tuesday launched a special drive to issue unique digital door number plates for properties within the municipal limits.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative in the Garkheda area, deputy municipal commissioner Aprna Thete said each number plate will have a QR code.
“A special QR code will be generated for every property, using which citizens can pay different taxes and avail other services. It is a user-friendly initiative, which will offer a range of benefits to both, property holders and the local civic body,” Thete said.
The unique digital door number plates are being introduced in the city with the help of CSR funding from the IndusInd Bank and citizens need not pay any charges for the same.
These unique digital door number plates will be installed at 3 lakh properties in the municipal limits of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar soon.
While poor tax recovery has been the norm in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the latest initiative is expected to help the local civic body improve its tax collection.
To begin with, a few houses from the Garkheda area were fitted with these number plates in the presence of Union minister of state for finance Bhagwat Karad and municipal commissioner G Sreekanth, among other dignitaries.
Sreekanth said the digital number plates would be as good as Aadhaar IDs for every property.
“The civic administration is giving unique digital addresses to properties. It will bring different civic services to the fingertips of citizens and help the civic administration in tracing properties,” he said.
The civic administration has appealed to citizens to cooperate with the staff visiting their homes for the installation of the number plates.
Meanwhile, several residents said they were curious about the digital number plates coming their way.
“We hope the initiative runs smoothly and more importantly on a sustainable basis,” said Pravin Mule, a resident of the Chikalthana area.
