RAIPUR: The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) intensified its drive against property tax defaulters, taking decisive action in Zone 10. In a move signalling a zero-tolerance policy, the RMC sealed Anand Restaurant, a prominent establishment in Ward 52, for failing to clear outstanding dues amounting to Rs 5,92,354 since 2019-20.
This stringent action, executed under the orders of RMC Commissioner Abinash Mishra, followed repeated issuance of demand bills, notices, and a final warning, all of which were ignored by the restaurant’s owner, Ashutosh Sharma. The sealing operation, overseen by Zone 10 officials, underscores the RMC’s commitment to recovering unpaid taxes and ensuring financial discipline.
“This sealing action is a clear message to all defaulters that the RMC will take strict measures to recover outstanding dues,” stated a spokesperson from the RMC. “We urge all property owners to pay their taxes on time to avoid such punitive actions.”
Adding to the crackdown, the RMC issued a stern warning to The Living Room and Green Cafe, located on VIP Road, Amlidih. The cafe’s operator, Jyoti Keswani, was instructed to update her property ID and clear her outstanding property tax within three days. Failure to comply will result in the RMC determining the annual rental value and generating a new, potentially higher, bill.
“We are giving property owners a fair chance to rectify their dues,” said Zone 10 Assistant Revenue Officer Mahadev Raksel. “However, we will not hesitate to take stringent action against those who continue to evade taxes.”
This crackdown is expected to continue, with officials vowing to pursue all defaulters until outstanding taxes are cleared.
