Raipur civic body's 1,500 crore budget prioritises urban development, ET RealEstate

RAIPUR: The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has proposed a budget of Rs 1,529. 53 crore for 2024-26.

The city will receive three working women’s hostels and restrooms, complete with sanitary vending machines and baby feeding facilities. The plans include a children’s play area and youth library.

For women’s safety, Rs 20 lakh has been allocated for surveillance cameras in public spaces. Street vendors will learn digital payment methods. A Divyang Park, costing Rs 10 crore, will cater to persons with disabilities.

Plans also include an electronic market, Crystal Arcade commercial hub, and Trade Tower.

Mayor Meenal Choubey presented her first budget on Friday, projecting a total income of Rs 1462.41 crore for 2025-26. With an opening balance of Rs 67.11crore expenditure of Rs 1528.73 crore , the budget shows a surplus.

The allocations focus on urban development, sanitation, and welfare schemes.

The public works department received Rs 97.3 crore. Food, public health, and sanitation got Rs 77.55 crore, covering pest control, dog sterilisation, waste management, equipment, and Safai Mitra Yojana.

A new online hoarding system and advertising policy aims to boost revenue. The electricity and mechanical department received Rs 73.99 crore, including funds for road lighting, solar projects, and electrical supplies.

The budget allocates Rs 88 lakh for poverty alleviation and social welfare, Rs 42 lakh for women and child development, and Rs 7.89 crore for SC/ST Welfare, including ward development. Sports and wouth welfare received Rs 2 crore.

The environment and horticulture department got Rs 27.10 crore for gardens, maintenance, and tree planting.

Cultural initiatives, tourism, entertainment, and heritage conservation receive Rs 3.42 crore.

Zone-wise expenditures total Rs 189.93 crore

Capital expenditure of Rs 789.89 crore includes Housing for All, Amrut Mission, infrastructure development, and urban initiatives.

Additional provisions support women’s empowerment, job generation, skill development and religious preservation.
