Rampant Illegal Constructions Threaten Noida's Yamuna Floodplains, ET RealEstate

NOIDA: The Noida Authority identified and flagged several constructions, including flat-style multi-storey buildings, on land parcels in Wajidpur village near the Yamuna floodplains. These unauthorised developments have been deemed illegal, with the authority confirming that action against violators is underway.

In addition, the authority has turned its attention to Kondli village, where the construction of several buildings has been noted. To determine further action, the authority sought a detailed report on these structures.

Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M directed officials to verify construction permissions of a banquet hall and restaurant along the main road in Kondli village, which he discovered during an inspection last week. He also instructed officials to remove unauthorised markets established along main roads and vacant lots in Kondli and install boundary markers.

In a public notice last month, the authority stated, “Unauthorised construction, including flat-style multi-storey buildings, being carried out on land in Khasra numbers 198, 199, and 168 in Wajidpur village is altering the nature/status of the said land, which adversely affects Noida’s proper planning, development of infrastructure facilities, and the interests of the general public. The authority is taking action against it.”

Wajidpur village, a known hotspot for illegal construction, has been the focus of periodic demolition drives conducted by the authority.

The authority also cautioned the public to refrain from engaging in the purchase, sale, or other transactions related to the unauthorised constructions on the mentioned land, warning of exploitation by land mafias.

The landowners of these parcels previously challenged the authority’s July demolition order in the Allahabad high court.

In its order dated Aug 20, the court directed the authority to address objections raised by the petitioners within six weeks, ensuring all stakeholders were heard. The court also restrained the landowners from further constructions on the disputed site or creating third-party interests.

Officials reiterated that any construction or plotting that violates the approved master plan or the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act, 1976, is entirely illegal.
