VASCO: People from different parts of the state converged on Sancoale on Sunday to protest against the mega project proposed by Bhutani Infra Development. Gathering under the banner of Sancoale Against Mega Project (SAMP), the protesters demanded that state govt revoke any construction licence issued to the multi-dwelling housing project with immediate effect.

They said they would intensify their agitation if the project is allowed.

Those gathered also expressed their support for former Sancoale sarpanch, Premanand Naik, who is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the revocation of the construction licence issued to the Bhutani project proposed at Savarfond, Sancoale.

Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas and former minister Francisco ‘Mickky’ Pacheco also attended the meeting and extended their support to the protesters.

The agitators said that some videos were being circulated claiming that Naik has been eating during the hunger strike. They said these claims are baseless and are meant to sabotage the protest.

“The act of recording footage from a toilet and later circulating it is a crime. Govt and police should act immediately to arrest the miscreants and culprits involved in the act,” said Pratima Coutinho.

“The videos and clips of Naik aim to disturb the agitation and the movement against Bhutani’s project,” said Tulsidas Naik, a local.

The agitators said they have decided to file a complaint at the Verna police station.
