RAIPUR: Union Minister for Agriculture, Panchayat, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the sanction of 3.3 lakh new houses under PMAY for Chhattisgarh, emphasizing that the double-engine govt in Centre and state is working with full dedication to transform the face and destiny of state.
Singh was addressing the Morar Awas Mor Adhikar programme held at Nagpura in Durg district on Friday. During the event, he also felicitated the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) by washing their feet.
Chouhan stated that the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide housing to the poor is now becoming a reality.
“So far, 8,47,000 homes have already been sanctioned in Chhattisgarh as part of this historic initiative to provide permanent homes to the poor across the country. The eligibility criteria for the scheme has been revised, including an increase in the income limit to Rs 15,000 and inclusion of individuals with 2.5 acres of irrigated land or 5 acres of non-irrigated land,” Chouhan said.
He added that efforts are being made to increase crop production, reduce the cost of farming, and diversify crops. New varieties of rice are being introduced, and ‘the Lakhpati Didi scheme is empowering women’.
CM Sai addressed the gathering, praised the governance model in the state, calling it an “example of good governance, particularly after the formation of the double-engine govt”. Sai mentioned that within a day of taking the oath of office, a cabinet meeting was held, and 18 lakh houses were approved for the state. Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh said that the coordination between the central and state govts has led to “unprecedented progress in housing and road construction.”
Deputy CM Vijay Sharma also spoke about how the PMAY is benefiting all eligible beneficiaries in the state. He mentioned the approval of 32,000 houses and the strengthening of rural connectivity through 2,449 kilometers of road projects.
