JAIPUR: A division bench of Rajasthan High Court Tuesday ordered the immediate sealing of 19 buildings in Walled City area in Jaipur for not following building bylaws and tampering with heritage.
The bench of Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Manish Sharma gave this interim order while hearing a suo motu cognisance case on commercial activities in the residential area of the city.
The order came after it was brought to the notice of the court that the committee constituted on the instructions of the high court considered 19 buildings completely illegal. It was said in the reply by the govt that 12 buildings were considered partially illegal. It was also informed that commercial activities were being conducted illegally at 19 buildings.
The court directed the govt to completely seal these buildings and submit the compliance report to the court by March 11. The division bench said that illegal construction and conducting commercial activities in the residential area is a violation of legal provisions.
During the hearing, amicus curiae in the case, advocate Shobhit Tiwari, said the municipal corporation has already taken action against these buildings and sealed them. On this, the bench said that if there was any deficiency in the earlier action, then these illegal buildings should be sealed again.
