Windmill Developments has appointed Jeremy Reeds as the company’s new president.
Reeds, who is also the partner of finance and operations, is responsible for Windmill’s strategic financial and operating initiatives, client relationships, investor relations, project financing, human resources, corporate accounting and financial reporting.
Before joining Windmill, Reeds was with Minto Group where he oversaw investor reporting and financial performance of development and major capital projects for Minto Properties.
He also played a key role in the launch of the Minto Apartment REIT and he oversaw the investment recommendation and deal structures for approximately $85 million of acquisitions and development projects.
Reeds obtained his CPA designation while working for KPMG in the real estate audit practice. He holds a bachelor of commerce degree from Carleton University.
Metcalfe appointed to RioCan board
RioCan REIT’s board (REI-UN-T) has appointed Guy Metcalfe as a trustee where he will join the investment and the people, culture and compensation committees.
Metcalfe is a longtime executive who joined Morgan Stanley in 1990, was a member of the investment bank’s executive committee and led its real estate investment banking business for over two decades. Most recently, he was global (executive) chairman until his retirement on Jan. 31.
During his more than 30-year career at Morgan Stanley, Metcalfe advised clients on over $850 billion of transactions and also served as an advisor to the CEOs and leaders of many of the world’s leading real estate companies.
Metcalfe played a leading role in some of the largest public company transactions in the United States and in marquee real estate deals in Europe.
He holds an honours BA in business administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University.
Ranjan private equity CEO at Brookfield Asset Mgmt.
Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. has named Anuj Ranjan chief executive officer of its US$139-billion private equity business, as longtime head Cyrus Madon moves to an executive chair role after almost two decades at the helm.
Ranjan has spent almost 18 years with Brookfield, most recently as president of the private equity division for the past two years. Madon had been named CEO of the private equity arm in 2006, after co-founding the unit in 2001.
Madon plans to remain active in the business and will continue to be a member of the investment committee and retain his executive officer role at Brookfield Business Partners, where he will also succeed Jeffrey Blidner as chair of the board of directors.
Valentine Andrews joins Manulife IM
Manulife Investment Management has hired Anne Valentine Andrews as global head of private markets, effective March 4.
With over 25 years of asset management and alternatives experience, Valentine Andrews will lead all investment teams and direct the overall strategy, business development and growth of Manulife IM’s private markets business.
Based in New York, Valentine Andrews will report to Paul Lorentz, president and CEO of Manulife IM.
She joins Manulife IM from BlackRock, where she spent the past nine years, most recently as managing director, global head of infrastructure and real estate.
Valentine Andrews also served on BlackRock’s global operating committee, human capital committee and the equity private markets executive committee.
Prior to BlackRock, she was co-head and chief operating officer for the Morgan Stanley infrastructure platform and worked at Macquarie Bank in both Melbourne and New York.
Oliviera, Veloso new partners, VPs at CentreCourt
CentreCourt announced two of the company’s development leaders, Daniel Oliveira and Ian Veloso, have each been named partner, VP development.
Oliveira and Veloso join CentreCourt’s existing senior management team of 13 partners, with responsibility for execution across acquisitions, development, sales and marketing, construction, finance and accounting.
Pollock, Graham leaving Melcor board
Melcor REIT (MR-UN-T) is seeking two new board members after announcing the pending departures of Larry Pollock and Carolyn Graham, who have resigned as of March 5.
The board is engaged in identifying and evaluating alternatives for new board trustees and board composition, the trust stated in the announcement.
McFarlane accepts new executive post at Pure
Peter McFarlane has been hired as executive vice-president, head of real estate operations at Pure Industrial.
McFarlane spent the past eight years at Fiera Real Estate, including the past four years as head of investment operations. He had previously served as senior vice-president, asset management and vice-president, pooled funds at Fiera.
He brings over two decades of business experience to Pure, including previous tenures with Lasalle Investment Management and Scotiabank.
He holds a bachelor of arts in economics and environment from McGill University.
Rosefellow names Salomon-Lima to business development role
David Salomon-Lima will be joining Rosefellow as vice-president of sales and business development in March.
He moves to Rosefellow from another Montreal-based firm, Broccolini, where he held three positions over the past 26 months, culminating in seven months as vice-president, leasing and business development.
Prior to joining Broccolini, Salomon-Lima spent over nine years at Ivanhoe Cambridge, and had started his career as a broker at Avison Young.
Fedele moves to ONE properties
Carla Fedele has joined ONE Properties as vice-president, asset management. Based in Calgary, she will be working with both clients and ONE’s internal investment, development and property management teams to grow its business.
Fedele has extensive industry experience in leasing and asset management. Most recently, she was vice-president, Western Canada retail asset management at Choice Properties REIT. She had direct responsibility for the western retail portfolio which totals 15 million square feet and 105 properties.
Before leading retail, she held significant industrial mandates.
Fedele was co-chair of the 2022 Calgary Real Estate Forum, and has been involved with the BOMA Calgary Chapter board of directors and as former president of NAIOP Calgary.
Shapira co-chairs DLA Piper real estate group
DLA Piper (Canada) LLP announced the appointment of Daniel Shapira as co-chair of its Canadian Real Estate Service Group.
Shapira joined the firm last year, bringing with him an extensive commercial real estate practice.
He has experience advising clients in a broad range of real estate matters covering property development, sales, acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial leasing and financing transactions, including land development and construction loans, acquisition facilities and operating facilities.
Shapira has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in real estate law and as a “Leading Lawyer to Watch” in property development in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
Weary moves to Hostaway as COO
Toronto-based vacation rental property management software firm Hostaway has hired ex-Hotjar COO Ken Weary as its new chief operating officer.
Co-founder and former chief operating officer Saber Kordestanchi will move to the role of chief strategy officer, the first of its kind for the company.
During Weary’s seven years at Hotjar, where he oversaw all internal HR, legal, finance and business operations, revenues grew by a factor of 20 times.
He was responsible for scaling teams from 14 to over 400 people, distributed across 45-plus countries.
