SECUNDERABAD: The proposed elevated skyway project between Paradise and Shamirpet is slated to affect over 100 private properties in Shamirpet of Medchal-Malkajgiri district, during land acquisition at the outer ring road on Rajiv Rahadari in Secunderabad Cantonment.

These properties fall within three villages – Hakimpet, Pothaipally, and Thumukunta – under Thumkunta Municipality. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the implementing agency of the twin elevated skyways under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), sent orders to the Thumkunta municipal commissioner to initiate land acquisition for the skyway, as the state government is keen on its completion.

“The land acquisition process has to be initiated under Transfer of Development Rights (TDR),” according to orders (a copy of which is in TOI’s possession) issued by the HMDA commissioner, who was also the MA&UD principal secretary, M Dana Kishore.

“In fact, it is a big task for the revenue department to acquire the land pertaining to private properties. Initially, they have to issue a public notice (area, survey of the land, extent of the land to be acquired), expressing the govt’s intention to take possession of the land, and then the affected property owners have to approach the revenue authorities to pay suitable compensation to give up their land. It takes at least a couple of months for the process to complete,” said a senior revenue official from Shamirpet mandal.

“The HMDA’s orders have been forwarded to Medchal-Malkajgiri district revenue authorities to initiate the land acquisition. The job is entrusted to a separate revenue wing which is looking after land acquisition work,” Thumukunta municipal commissioner, D Jaithram Naik told TOI.

Meanwhile, a few property owners from Vasavi Nagar colony approached the SCB chief executive officer (CEO) and urged him to ensure that their properties would not be affected during widening of the stretch for the project. As per the blueprint, SRDP envisages the acquisition of private lands along state highway involving both residential and commercial establishments situated on either side of it.

The properties demanded SCB officials to restrict the width to 100-ft instead of 200-ft as many properties may get affected. “A road width of 100-ft over this stretch along the Rajiv Rahadari starting from Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Trimulgerry crossroads can serve the purpose,” a property owner at Vasavi Nagar colony opined.
