NOIDA: The stamp and registration department will organise a special camp on March 16 where people can resolve any issues related to stamp duty. Officials said that they have identified about 1,500 cases of stamp duty evasion. Notices have been served on them.

In Noida and Greater Noida, the properties are registered in different categories like residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, agricultural, etc. Hence, a person cannot use the residential area for commercial activity or any other use. If done so, additional stamp duty is charged.

Assistant inspector-general of stamps and registry in Noida, BS Verma, said that at present there are 1,573 stamp duty evasion cases pending.

Officials said that once a person executes a property’s registry, the department conducts a verification of the property to ensure it was registered in the same category. In case the property is not registered in a suitable category, notices are served to the property owners.

Another official added that notices are served to those evading stamp duty and FIRs are also registered against them under Section 33 of The Indian Stamp Act, 1899.
