NASHIK: State govt has earmarked Rs 145 crore from the district planning committee (DPC) to develop infrastructure in Sinnar, Manmad, Bhagur, Ojhar, Igatpuri and other towns in rural Nashik in the next financial year.

A DPC official said that state govt has approved a general plan of Rs 813 crore for the district for 2024-25.

The municipal councils including – Manmad, Yeola, Nandgaon, Satana, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Chandwad, Sinnar and nagar panchayats including Dindori, Kalwan Niphad, Devla, Peth, Surgana along with Bhagur and Ozhar, could benefit from the special outlay.

“State govt has earmarked Rs 145 crore under special additional outlay for urban pockets in the district that includes all 15 councils and nagar panchayats. This will help these urban areas to carry out developmental works,” said Nashik DPO Kiran Joshi. As per govt orders, the funds would be distributed in the ratio of the population in the respective bodies as per the 2011 census.

“While a ceiling on the amount of funds to be spent on the issue has been announced by govt, only those works that are required for the development of these areas will be allowed,” said another official from the administration.

According to the chief officer of one of the councils, the local self-governing bodies have less budget and the funds are also limited. Managing regular works and undertaking developmental works is not possible on a shoe-string budget.

“Whenever there are some issues, we approach the DPC or the state government for funds. As DPC is for rural areas, very less amount is sanctioned for councils. Getting funds from the state is even a tedious job. The provision will allow faster development in such councils,” said the official.
