PANAJI: Goa govt has already prepared a proposal to have a metro train system in the state and discussions on the proposal are on with Indian Railways and other central authorities, said chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday, speaking at the Young Leaders Conclave at Dona Paula.
The chief minister also said that there are already 50 to 60 IT companies operating in Goa and that the state is thinking of creating an IT hub too in the state.
“Metro is in the planning stage. We have prepared our proposal, and discussion is on with Indian Railways. But, in the long run, metro will come to Goa,” said Sawant.
He said that the proposal to reconstruct the age-old Panaji and Mapusa bus stands is also in the planning stage. He said, though delayed, the reconstruction of these two bus stands will be taken up.
While interacting with elected student representatives from colleges across Goa during a session, Sawant said that govt is working on creating a common complex on the Goa University campus for architecture, music, and pharmacy colleges, which will also give these colleges new and modern buildings.
“Pharmacy college building is in a dilapidated state. We want to provide new buildings to architecture, music and pharmacy colleges by shifting them to the 2 lakh sqm land near Goa University and building a complex for them. Litigation is on. Within six months, the foundation stone will be laid for new pharmacy college,” said Sawant.
He also promised to accommodate students of nursing under the ongoing CM apprenticeship scheme and ensure that they are paid a small stipend to those pursuing post garduation. He said this will be done to encourage nursing students to pursue MSc education as nurses in superspecialty are needed today.
Virendra Singh Solanki, national general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), said student union elections play a crucial role in motivating students and promoting good leadership.
