KOLKATA: Following the footsteps of KMC, Howrah is set to implement stringent building regulations. The decision to amend the Howrah Municipal Corporation Act 1980 was deemed necessary to ensure alignment with relevant provisions of the KMC Act 1980 concerning building regulations.
Municipal affairs department minister Firhad Hakim presented the amendment bill in the assembly on Tuesday, emphasising the need for stricter rules for building clearance to bring them in line with the KMC standards. Under the proposed amendments, the Kolkata Municipal Building Rules of 2009 will be made applicable to Howrah Municipal Corporation with necessary modifications.
Hakim highlighted that the amended regulations would require building clearance from the fire department in addition to existing procedures. tnn
