Strike still on to revoke construction permit for Bhutani project in Sancoale, ET RealEstate

VASCO: Although Premanand Naik ended his indefinite hunger strike on the 10th day, a token chain strike continues with citizens, activists, social workers, and politicians demanding the withdrawal of construction permissions granted to Bhutani’s mega project at Savarfond, Sancoale.

Opposition panch members from Sancoale village have demanded revocation of the project, alleging that the project proponent has failed to comply with 35 observations, NOCs and permissions in the technical clearance issued by the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA).

Opposition panch member Maurelio Carvalho said, “The project proponent has misrepresented the project. They do not have any permissions from the authorities concerned or departments required for technical clearances from the MPDA. Sancoale panchayat, in its showcause notice, has requested the required NOCs but the project proponent failed to clarify whether they possess the essential documentation.”

Panch members of the ruling party have decided to opt for a legal opinion without revoking the construction licence despite the project proponent’s failure to furnish information on the NOCs.

The protesters have appealed to ruling panch members to join their movement against Bhutani’s project. “Sancoale panch members should unite in the interest of their village and reject the construction licence issued to Bhutani’s project. We need the support of six members to form a quorum to cancel the project,” said Carvalho.
