Submersible Superyachts Are About to Be the New Flex for the Superrich

What can you offer someone who has everything? This is the ultimate question überluxury travel aims to answer. One Austria-based company believes it has a new response to the query: submersible superyachts.

Migaloo, a company that designs such vessels, recently shared renderings of its latest offering: a 213-foot superyacht that could descend up to 820 feet into the ocean. Called Migaloo M5, the ship’s design features a white exterior with black accents, perhaps reminiscent of the famous humpback whale from which the company derives its name. According to Dezeen, the crisp hue was chosen to differentiate the boat from other vessels. On board, the Migaloo M5 would include many common amenities found on superyachts such as a helipad, pool, and a gym.

The massive ship could reportedly spend up to four weeks underwater.

“We believe motor yachts and sailing yachts cannot fully satisfy the ever-rising demands of [the] modern owner,” Christian Gumpold, CEO and founder of Migaloo, tells AD. “The needs of superyacht owners for their vessels are more complex than ever.” According to Gumpold, buyers are no longer simply interested in performance, size, or design. Instead, they’re looking for “privacy, security, and protection for themselves, their guests, and their valuables.” Superyacht owners may also be interested in unique and extremely exclusive adventures, he says.
