Suzanne Somers’s Longtime Palm Springs Estate Lists for $8.95 Million

The former Palm Springs home of the late sitcom actor and entrepreneur Suzanne Somers is now listed for $8.95 million. The Three’s Company star, who died at age 76 in October, bought the French country-style compound with her husband Alan Hamel in 1977, the same year that they wed. The pair maintained the 28-acre compound for over four decades until downsizing to a nearby four-bedroom home designed by Steve Chase in 2021.

Somers and Hamel sold the Palm Springs home, which is composed of five separate structures, in May 2021 for $8.5 million. “It sold because I finally let it go—emotionally, spiritually, and physically,” the Step by Step actor told the New York Post at the time. The couple previously attempted to auction off the home in 2018 with a $14.5 million asking price before ultimately canceling the auction and removing the property from the market.

“The layout of our home is unique,” Somers told People in 2018. “It’s a great one for having guests because they can each go off to their own cottages at the end of the day and have privacy.” Jutting out of the rocky mountainside, the buildings connect via a series of terraces and stone walkways. Together, the five villas host a total of seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms across nearly 7,300 square feet. One of the guest homes, a two-bedroom dwelling known as the Rock House, was designed by modernist architect Albert Frey.

The distinctive estate, which is accessible via an open-air funicular, also boasts an amphitheater, a lagoon-style pool, an outdoor clawfoot bathtub, and plentiful patio space. Wood-burning fireplaces and luxurious soaking tubs are common threads throughout the villas, as well as the generous use of natural materials like wood and stone.

Last spring, the current seller listed the home for $12.9 million before taking it down three months later and returning it to the market earlier this month with a nearly $4 million discount.

The property is listed with Scott Lyle at Compass.
