WeChat creator Tencent is set to get a new Tencent global headquarter building in Shenzhen. Büro Ole Scheeren‘s “Tencent Helix” proposal won an international design competition for the project, beating out other schemes put forward by Zaha Hadid, Foster + Partners, Heatherwick Studio, OMA and several others.
The structure’s dynamic form, spiralling upwards, is intended to nod to Tencent’s rapid growth. Extending across almost 500,000 square meters, the campus will be nearly twice the size of Apple Park in California.
In a statement, Ole Scheeren said: “Tencent has a vision for the role of technology as a multi-dimensional system of sustainable values for society. Our design for the new Tencent global headquarters reflects the same values, converging technology with the needs of people and society in a multi-dimensional construct of space and social integration.”
